I don’t like leopard print… that’s right I said it. The classic way anyways, beige, black, contrasty leopard is just not my thing no matter how hard I have tried to like it. Mind you with that being said, a little leopard accessory here and there is alright in my books, although I don’t actually have any – I wouldn’t mind a nice little pop of leopard on a belt or some shoes.
Now I know you are thinking… um hello Jess, you are wearing a leopard dress in this blog post. I KNOW, I am just as shocked as you are honestly, but something about this subtle satin bronze number just did it for me. I think that I like it because of the satin material and the way the light hits it, it creates texture and dimension and doesn’t scream leopard in your face the way a lot of leopard does.
I found this dress at Urban Outfitters on a cloudy day in Brampton after some bridesmaid dress shopping (as you know if you have been following my blog, my cousin in getting married and so wedding things were in full swing until Covid happened). I don’t have an Urban Outfitters near me, it is about an hour away from where I live so when I get the opportunity to go there I seize it. Their spring collection is gorgeous, but I actually found this guy tucked away in the back sales room! I wasn’t sure about it at first but after trying it on I knew it needed to be added to my closet.
The first way I thought about styling it was with an oversized blazer, and as I had just gotten this gorgeous double breasted, super handy one (there is A LOT of secret pockets) from my Frank and Oak Style Plan Box it only made sense to pair them together. As you might have seen in my unboxing on Instagram (shameless self promotion over here – you can find the video in my Highlight if you haven’t seen) I also got these mustard yellow socks in a pack of two in that same Frank and Oak Style Plan box. These two items work super well together along with the black blazer and shoes, I think by having the colour in the middle and being accented by black on all sides it creates a fun almost colour blocking effect.
Like I was saying above, this blazer is absolutely amazing, all of Frank and Oak‘s pieces are exceptional that I have received so far and I am not exaggerating at all. I think that they are an amazing company with great values and sustainable practices that pride themselves in great quality, stylish, well fitting pieces at a great price. Yes, the pieces are more money than say your H&Ms or Zaras but I like to look at cost per wear, and because the quality is so great these pieces will easily be in my closet for the next 10 years. I know I keep raving about them, but seriously you need to check them out if you haven’t yet!
I wanted to make this “slip”-esque satin dress more casual for everyday wear; although I would be comfortable wearing it by itself, some people might think it looks a little night gowny, which is totally understandable. In order to overcome this I think an oversized blazer achieves this very well while also adding a more put together tailored look to the outfit. Another way I want to and will be styling it in the future is with a t-shirt underneath, whether than be plain or graphic I am not entirely sure yet… I have to play around but that also makes the dress more casual/everyday friendly. I also think that a band tee tied up over top of the dress would create a cool skirt-type vibe also, so stay tuned for that… maybe I will do an IG tv video styling it different ways! Let me know if you would be interested in seeing that and I can make it happen.
In other news -like I mentioned above, I have been doing a lot more over on Instagram recently so if you are looking for more casual, everyday content that is where you will find it! Blog posts will still be pouring in as I have been on a content kick recently and still have a bunch of backlog from my hiatus, but there is new things coming soon as well. I have also been doing something extra exciting (may or may not be a small business owner…shhh) and will be sharing a whole lot about that in my next post… so stay tuned.
This year has been a wild ride so far but it is turning out to be quite the motivator. I have been digging deep and figuring out who I want to be and what I want to be doing. One of my main goals has been to really transform my platforms and create a more positive, uplifting, inspiring space for you all to visit – not just fashion and fluff. I think I was hesitant before to share too much of myself before because believe it or not I am majorly self-conscious…so the idea of videos terrifies me, but I am working on it! So far I have been doing well, and haven’t been taking myself so seriously; but by the end of this year I want to have so much confidence in myself that it’s sickening! I believe I can do it and I would love it if you guys try this confidence thing with me. Drop a comment down below of something that has inspired you today!
Lastly, Frank and Oak has an amazing code for you all right now! With the purchase of Your First Style Plan Box you get:
