DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater

Hello gorgeous friends !

Merry Christmas ! I hope all of your Christmases were just as fabulous as mine, this year it was just amazing ! I had so much fun with all of my family and was just so thankful to have such amazing people to spend time with. This year I was also EXTREMELY spoiled by everyone in my life and I just can’t begin to thank them enough. I am going to do an entire post about what I got for Christmas, that should be up very soon so stay tuned ! For now though, I wanted to share with you one of my favourite things I wore this Christmas season, and that is this DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater that I had made for my work Christmas party !

How amazing did this sweater turn out though ! I was super impressed with myself personally haha. The idea came to me while I was looking at the thing I of course wanted to wear with it, my beautifully amazing velvet skirt. I wanted it to be of course ” ugly ” but also cute and unique, not like anything I had seen before. After browsing Pinterest for a few hours, I came across this post of a girl who had made something similar and decided that I would make myself into a tree.

This sweater took me three nights to make, if I were to guess I would say literally like 20 hours haha ! I was sewing the entire thing so I think if I were to do it again I would just use a hot glue gun to save a ton of time, but oh well ! I love the way it turned out, funnily enough, it almost didn’t !

Originally when I went to buy supplies, I only bought one of the fluffy garlands in the centre thinking it would be enough ( now that I think about it, I must have been nuts lol ). I went back to Walmart to get two more, one for the rest of the body and one for the arms and I COULDN’T FIND ANY ! I had to search for a solid 10 minutes before I found one more very, very hidden in this colour. Thank god I did because it wouldn’t have worked if I didn’t. So the only other place I could think of to get some for the rest was the dollar store, and they didn’t have any garland in the same colour so actually I almost bought another colour, BUT thankfully I saw this weird pop up tree thing in this same colour at the last minute and thought I could make it work somehow, and as you can see I did.

Now, of course the middle part was a lot easier to do than the arms because the tree I found was actually made of wire, so I had to cut pieces that fit perfectly around my arm and then sew those circles individually to the sweater so it took quite awhile. I do like the way that doing it this way turned out though because it didn’t make my arms look super humungous like the centre of the sweater.

After finishing sewing the entire thing together ( keep in mind I had to keep putting the shirt on, seeing the placement of each stitch, taking it off and stitching (hence the 20 hours)) I added some little ornaments I also purchased from Walmart and a set of battery string lights I already had at home and Voila ! I love how much I look like a Christmas tree haha. I was going to wear a star on top of my head as well, but I couldn’t find a good way to do it !

I hope this provides a little inspiration for your ugly Christmas sweater’s next year and if you decide to make something similar please show me how it turns out !

I hope you all had wonderful Christmases and I hope that these late Christmas posts aren’t too irrelevant haha <3 Love you guys ! Thanks for all your support, the next few posts will be coming over the next few days so stay tuned <3
